02 silverado question
      #371740 - 03/23/09 10:15 AM

I had a guy tell me a while back that he had his electric fuel pump changed at 70,000 mile on the recomendation of his mechanic. My 02 is rolling up on 70K and wondered if anyone else has ever done this??
Do you ever change your tranny fluid and filter?
How about the rear end differential??

Tranny fluid and filter should be changed per the recommended intervals from GM, same for rear differential fluid. I'm thinking somewhere in the 30-50K miles range for tranny fluid/filter, but consult your owner's manual, or call the local dealership service advisor.

Can't help much re: the fuel pump.

My service manager would touch our 99 suburban tranny till it got to 100k, I didn't tow anything either.

I think that's a lot of work. If I remember right, you have to drop the tank. Sounds bogus.

I was told just recently by my dealer that changing my tranny fluid at 90 was a good idea because I tow a trailer. Otherwise it wasn't necessary. No filter change was recommended. To change the fluid you just hook up the lines to a machine, to change the filter you have to drop the pan. Lots more work, lots more bucks.

I change my tranny fluid and filter every 30K. I got to change the tranny itself at 70k! I did the front and rear ends at 30 and 60k as well.
I strongly advise changing your fuel filter every 20k or sooner. Because of fuel injection the filters these days screen out a lot smaller particles. This means they clog much faster making the fuel pump work harder. I came by this revelation when my fuel pump went out at 42k. The filter only had 12k on it and I couldn't blow through it. The pump was $650.
The easiest way to change the pump is to lift off the bed. Six bolts, three buddies, two sawhorses, and 1 hour.

T,
I really like my Chevy. Comfortable, smooth riding, auto 4x4. It has been trouble free since I bought it in 2002.
Gas milage is average.

Tally, nothing against your choice, but I won't buy GM anymore, not after all the chit that has been happening. I don't agree with all these bailouts, some maybe, but I'm tired of seeing all these shitbags make millions on us hard working folk. Just venting, I know its not just GM.
