I have fished quite a few hike in lakes, but never any in the North Cascades park. If they are going to stop stocking lakes I would like to see them apply it on a lake by lake basis instead of a blanket policy covering the whole park. If there's a valid reason to remove trout, such as endangered salamanders or frogs being impacted, then I could see a reason for it. But if it's just to restore a lake to it's original "natural" state then I don't see a reason to do so. And it's not like the park service is paying for the stocking, as far as I can tell it is volunteers hiking in with the fingerlings. Quite a few of the lakes I have fished have self supporting populations of fish, and again I see no reason to kill out the fish in a self supporting lake unless some endangered species is threatened.

I'd rather be fishing

Sounds like environmental fanatics. They sometimes take the "natural" concept to ridiculous extremes. I dont like extremism of any kind.
