By The Associated Press
Washington state will receive about $16.4 million in federal stimulus money to restore damaged wetlands, reopen fish passages and improve habitat for threatened salmon.
The money announced Tuesday is part of $167 million distributed nationwide by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
There's $2 million to restore floodplain on the lower Elwha River, $4.5 million to remove derelict fishing gear in Puget Sound and $5.2 million to improve saltmarsh habitat at Fisher Slough in Burlington.
There's money to restore fish passage on the lower Snohomish River in Marysville, improve floodplain habitat on Hansen Creek in Milltown and improve habitat at Smuggler's Slough near Bellingham. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009402584_webrestoration30.html?syndication=rss

Have they removed the Elwha dams yet? Does it make sense to "restore" floodplains on the lower Elwah if the dams are still in? It would seem to make sense to wait until they are out before doing it.

I wish reopen fish passages meant removing the nets from fresh water.

I dont remember what the total figure is for the porkulus package, but it was reported that a mere 50 million has been spent so far. It could be a long time before PS ever sees this money. Sounds like the stimulus is designed to dump in districts that are on the fence in the next election.
Last night, Obama was quoted as saying that the stimulus package has done its job. I dont know how. Im sure that the administration will want to report the recession is over before most of the 6 million residents are back to work. Even Helen Thomas isnt buying the BS. I heard the quote in her exchange with the whitehouse, that the whitehouse called up reporters the night before the press conference to inform each reporter what question they would be allowed to ask at the press conference. Just makes you all warm and fuzzy doesnt it?

That sounds like every administration. Limiting questions is common practice for all politicians, local, state or Federal. Even more important when the media interviews the Military, for obvious reasons.
