Bored (fishing) in Germany
      #382321 - 07/25/09 12:25 PM

Now that I will be here in Germany for a few years, I am thinking about building my own rods. How hard is it to do, what do i need for materials, What blanks should I use, what would it cost me for a nice g-loomis/rainshadow/Lami rod....? Looking to build float rods for kings and steel along with drift fishing. Any input would be greatly apprieciated. Also what lenghts would you suggest.

Eric

If you want a float/drift rod combo, the 10 1/2 ft blanks are about the max length that will work well for both. If your looking for one blank for each, there's a bit more flexibility. Lots of blanks out there will do the job. To many to list here in the 9 1/2 ft to 10 1/2 range from all the manufacturers you listed to list here, but I'd be happy to help with a PM.
If rod building was that difficult, I'd never have gotten through the first batch I built on the way to the Antarctic on a ice breaker in the mid 70's. I still fish some of those rods.
Cost depends on what you're looking for as far as components.
