Ran across a few rods in Gold Beach, OR this weekend, and was wondering if anyone has ever built or used one like it. It was an Okuma 1-piece, 7' or 7'-6" with enough guides to look like a downrigger rod (but too short and too heavy), and had no reel seat. Just had solid black/tan cork for the last 30" or so, and is supposed to get used with the clamp-on reel feet. Guy at the shop said they get used for bottom fishing, etc. Can't find anything for that brand/model online, but found this for a Diawa... http://www.bluecollartackle.com/Daiwa-Ro...hand%20rods.htm
Seems as though something like this might make a rice, adjustable rig for various salt fishing conditions (mooching, downriggers) with the adjustable reel position and all...could even set up one rod type that could be customized quickly on the boat for kids/women, etc with a shorter reach.
