Westport Sunday

Got lucky and whored a ride out of Westport with a friend I work with yesterday. Had a great time with 3 limits in the boat, all ho's, no kings. Oh and the surprise of the day two Humbolt Squid, man those things are weird lookin'. Fished straight out on the 200' line with nobody else around, all the fish were between 7 and 12 lbs. First time I had been in the ocean for a few years, it was a blast. Water was a little lumpy on the way out but layed down around 10:00 or so, easy run back in around 1:30.

Well that sounds like a great time. Nothing better than doing your own thing and getting into the fish with nobody around.

You keep the squid? I've actually thought of chasing them someday. Guys in Cali do trips just for fishing squid...and since I'm allergic to fish...

We did, cleaning it was like an alien autopsy. Cooked some up Monday night, it was OK. Gonna try some different recipes, really did not have much taste/flavor to it. The 2 we caught was on a dodger/herring combo but we think one hit the Koho Killer spoon we had high lining out the back, the rod dipped down slow, stayed for about 5 seconds and then came back up and didn't throb like when a salmon hits it. Right after that was when we caught one of the two. I read about them on-line and they run in packs/schools so that is what makes me think it was a squid.
