Hello, I'm pretty new when it comes to the mooching setup and would like to learn how to tie up the mooching slip knot. The way I was told was to basically tie an egg loop on the bottom hook, then feed the line through the eye of the second hook, take another piece of line and complete a second egg loop. Is this correct? Also, is there something better to use to tie the second hook on, it would seem mono on mono would have to keep re-tieing due to the friction/chaffing. I've read of some people using waxed dental floss, braid, fly backing line, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could use Dacron for it... Kinda like a bobber stop on the shank of the hook

Most production rigs use mono. Several people prefer the solid tie rigs as we think the slider moves and doesn't get a good hookset. Probably an ol wives tale.  If you hook the nose only and leave the trailer loose,(West Port style) you need a solid tie.

I was reading somewhere that there is one setup that will slide and when pressure is add, i.e a fish, it won't slide. Anyone know of this or used anything like it? Also, would Dacron cause chaffing as mono does?

Another thing you might want to consider is that if the bottom hook were to break off..... bye bye fishy....

Yeah, I prefer solid tied (double egg loop)but, wanted to learn the slip way for easy transition of bait size.

Easy transition, take a solid tie leader, cut off the bottom hook and retie (solid tie) where you want it. I've met/worked with over 100 guides and know of only 1 that (occassionally) used slip tied leaders, just sayin!
