New Upper Columbia Hatchery new
      #386558 - 09/30/09 11:59 AM

The Northwest Power quarterly newsletter states that The Collville tribe is building a new hatchery near the mouth of the Okanogon river. The tribe plans to release 2 million summer Chinook and 900,000 spring Chinook smolts annualy starting in 2011. The have also agreed to share these fish with sports anglers, the article doesn't specify what exactly "share" means, but this appears to be a good deal for sportsfishers in my opinion. These fish will be fin clipped so that they can be identified for harvest.

The Colville's appear to be leading the way to towards how relations "should" be and leading the way on selective fishing.

Have to learn to walk and take small baby steps long before we can run a marathon.
