Chukar?
      #387330 - 10/13/09 07:27 PM

Well Chukar season finally got here and I found my way out to some of my old haunts looking for some easy birds. Ya know I don't mind them laughing at me so much when I havent worked them yet but there is just something obnoxious about them laughing AFTER I empty the gun twice with not so much as a feather out of place. Usually like that the first time or two.
Numbers look very good judging on the # of different groups I could hear calling before the shooting started. The do look to be in some tough country that I think is best hunted from the top down..

Dot the Dog did well for her first time out. Managed to point the first group briefly then they flushed. Second group was about 40 birds and we were up wind.. dangit all anyway. She was very interested after that in the closer singles that were calling. Based on what I saw out of her Sat & Sunday she is going to be a good hunter. Works at about 25-35 yards out and stays down wind on crossing and quarters into or with.. Looks like it should be a good chukar year in Nevada.

D-Dog, how much for a non-resident small game license?

Joe, just returned from Nevada. An out of state license would be worth your while!

Jake, did you spank a monster?

Adam, Give me a week or two. I haven't been home for about 5 weekends in a row. Mama and Rod_Bully have plans for this weekend, possibly next. I'll call you in a week or so...

Last Chukar I shot was a banded. I phoned it in and it turns out it was a banded bird from Nevada...pretty weird.

If we coordinate things I might be able put some folks up on a weekend. maybe the 30-31 of oct.
Tells about the buck..
Nevada non resident upland bird..21+$10 stamp for 1 day.. additional days $8 or 39 for 2 day 47 for 3 consecutive days
which is similar to Idaho steelhead non resident.

Shot in the Yakima Canyon area. Bio said they were captured and released in the Canyon to try and bolster the population. Chukar have taken a bit of a nose dive in that area. They are still around, but just takes a bit more hiking...not that you're not hiking your ass off anyway.

We'll have to have a Chuk-a-thon one of these days, meet in Nevada and shoot some birds!
