Bad day... new
      #387588 - 10/17/09 05:10 PM

Pheasant opened at noon. Bailey and I started a little late, but by 12:30 she had a nose full of birds. she busted a covey of quail in really tall brush and I missed a snap shot at the only bird I actually targeted. We pushed a line of brush and about 1/4 mile later she got really birdy again. I heard Quail chirping and was ready when the covey busted. Dropped on bird with the first shot, and then another group blew up behind me and I spun around and killed another. I hollered for Bailey to help me find the first bord and when she came around the sage-brush her face was covered with blood. She was trying to find the bird, and wouldn't set still long enough for me to get a good look, so I called her over and grabbed he collar. She had hit the fence, and ripped a nice gash from one side of her nose to the other, and also taken a divot out of her head.

Our day was over, but it wasn't as bad as I first thought. No stitches needed, just globbed a bunchg of anti-biotic on the cuts. She won't win any beauty contests, but she'd gonna be a good hunting dog.

Trouble still wins as I still haen't had to rush her to the vet held together by you.

You would probably call Bailey Mini-ME. She looks like a smaller Trouble...

It's funny how fast her nose healed. I read (on the int4rnet so it has to be true) that the dogs nose is the fastest healing part of their body. Good thing because that sucker pumped a lot of blood out...

It amazing how hard they can hit a barbwire fence and come out with almost no issues from it. Glad your dog is doing better!

I had a buddy that had a male chocolate lab. At the time I had a black lab female. We were jump hunting a creek and about 20 birds got up in front of me. I managed to dump 3 greenheads. His dog saw the birds fall and came foggin' it from about 100 yards away. My dog and I were on the creek side of the fence, he and his dog weren't. When bear hit the fence it sliced about a 12 inch long 1/2 inch deep cut in his chest. Needless to say, since that time I have been paranoid about barbed wire.

Best wishes to the pup. Our's was born a week ago so it will be a while before we experience the trials and tribulations.

If it's a lab, start sucking up to the vet now...

She is fine this morning, but she has another cut I didn't see yesterday just over her eye. All of her cuts are already healling up. Man they get better quick.

WORD!

Trouble has others including a dog bite and a snake bite on the nose. Problem with these dogs are 2 fold.

1- there drive, amazing if you ask me.
2- there focus, see above....

Hate to hear about dogs and fences as it took over 50 stiches and 15 staples to put mine together one time.
Good to hear she's getting better.

Yeah I had a GSP that had a pair until one too many encounters with barb wire, so getting him patched up included nuetering. When it happened, I did not even realize it as he kept hunting, but then I noticed the blood trail..
