mind boggling new
      #386977 - 10/07/09 08:50 PM

well here i am at the Index town store and i pick up our local paper (The Index Time) and open it up to see the fishing picture of the week and to my dismay there's a photo of a local guy standing there with a grin and a nice king, i tell the folks at the store about how kings are protected and that's just wrong to kill them. from there i'm told he been catching them and he had two of them the other day with one running almost #40.

i've realy been trying to see the humor in the scumbags around here poaching and snagging mass amounts humpy from under the town bridge in there spawning ground and have been having a real hard time with the fact there doing it front of all the kids in town (it's right at the town public beach) and acting like it's ok.

so is there anything that can be done when somone is dumb enough to let there picture be published with a poached sky river king?

oh i should mention that the guys name is GrayHawk and he claims to be native amarican. if this is true could he be taking wild kings from the south fork of the Sky?

That's just wrong in my book, they (Natives) are supposed to be "The Stewards of the Land", NOT.

There was another such event that involved an Indian that put a gill net right in front of a hatchery!!!!

I don't think that they give a Rip because they blame the Whiteman for the fisheries that are in peril.

I will let the Index Times have my opinion on this matter, such as not knowing what is legal to keep on particular rivers (even locally, they should find out that's their job to substaciate the facts). And that Snagging is ILLEGAL & some people teach their kids that it's "The Way" to fish for Salmon.

Thanks for keeping us informed Index Hooker. Jim Sr

gooose do you know if there is any reason a trib member can fish this high up on the river for native kings? i don't think this guy is really a native amrican and if he is i doubt that he's from any local tribe. but it's that nasty little quistion that makes me wonder if somhow he has the right.

It would be pretty much impossible to do anything legally about it unless 1) the perp' admitted to committing the crime or 2) there were several witnesses to the actual crime willing to testify. Possibly a search warrant could be issued for the carcass or whatever he has in the freezer. A genetic analysis could possibly show the meat to be from a wild chinook...but from what river? This isn't the only wild chinook hat's been poached this year and won't be the last for years to come. The perp's heritage isn't relevant as these poachers occur in all communities. Comes down to the same issue in these regards....we have around 100 LE officers when we need 200 just to begin doing something. Until those numbers change get use to seeing the war lost.

Harvesting any Chinook from there, hatchery or wild, is illegal...though may come with very different penalties should it be a wild fish and the feds choose to intervene...

Fish on...
