I should have posted this sooner; interesting reading regarding potential Washington State fishing reg changes. Some related points made in the comments section below the article. Some argue for a 5 year ban on fishing. I don’t know how many years my local fisheries would need to be restored, or that it’s even possible. Would five years help reiter? Seems like they have a good opportunity for a great fishery but lack the will.
Anyway, happy reading and food for thought.

Thanks for the link.
WOW!! There are some major idiotic propossed rule changes headed our way.
Now is the time to look them over, rationalize with others at how they would affect us as sportsfishers & ask specific, detailed & professional questions at these public meetings.
I for one have already started a list of questions that I will discuss with fellow sportsfishers and I WILL be at the December meetings!! We must be heard!!

A five year ban would do nothing to change the missmanaged program at Reiter. Maybe allowing the Wallace hatchery to raise steelhead again would be a good start and coming up with funding for more gamies to protect the rivers and lakes would be money well spent.
I have a hard time buying that once they take our seasons away, we will ever see them again! I also don't see the commercials/tribes doing much to help protect the resource...Thers's a dead horse to keep beating!
It comes down to politics, and we as sportsmen and women do a pretty $hity job selling/protecting our sport. There are a handful of folks on this board that put in a lot of hours and do good work on our behalf, but it's gonna take more then the few to represent the many!

Problem #1 is that even amongst those few there isn't agreement on key issues.

UP it appears that you care a lot about the sport and the fish. I would recommend that you join CCA and PSA. You can make a difference inside a large organization. Both are active in the North of Falcon process and members in general are need to show up at the various meetings with the dept and the commission to show our collective strength, whether you personally testify or not. I can tell you, IT HAS WORKED EVERYTIME ITS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
A large org gives us more versatility in the projects we take on and it gives us more clout. There are plenty of committees and research that is needed.

There is a lot out there to fend off NOW, including recreational divers and so called "conservation" groups that are attacking sport fishing, rather than take on commercial fishing interests.
COWARDLY comes to mind.

They attack the group they believe they can beat. Half a loaf is better than none. Frankly the divers have a load of information that could be used against draggers.

Perhaps "they" should concentrate on milking the taxpayers for more habitat projects instead. Their biggest achievement to date is creating high salary manager jobs and building their own little NGO empire.

So... "They" have been in the business of looking out for WILD FISH for 20 years now. Anyone care to tell me how successful they have been in that 20 years? Chinook, Steelhead and now Rockfish will be ESA listed.
Perhaps attacking and going after sport fishermen while ignoring the other two fishing groups isn't a successful strategy after all.
Unless failure is your desired goal so that you can continue getting public money to "save" fisheries?

I'm referring to a certain conservation group, not the divers.
