My wife shot her first elk last night. Better than that our girls were there to see mom do it. All three of them were very excited and I am very proud of her. I expected her to shoot it behind the shoulder but she's heard me lecture everyone else about the head or neck and that's where she wacked her. Black Powder, 60 yards, big dry cow, drug her to the pickup whole, no meat wasted....couldn't ask for more.

Nice animal! 50 or 54 cal. smokepoles can destroy a lot of meat. Nice call on the head/neck shot.

Cool. Nothing better than bringing them out whole.
The ML bullets move pretty slow, 1600-1800 FPS in most cases, so there isn't a lot of hydrostatic shock (blood shot meat) like there is with a .30-06. Usually just punches a hole.
Enjoy!

Mrs. Moan says for me to stop calling her that and thanks for all the kind words from everyone. Now that she's done and my dads done, I have to find a decent buck in the next couple days for a friend and then I am heading up north to hopefully pull the trigger myself. With any luck the bucks are in full swing up there, they sure are here.

The mulies have been going for about 3 weeks but the whitetails here have just started in the last few days. I don't know alot about whitetails. I do know they are about the strangest animals I've ever tried to hunt, besides women. We hung a couple of doe scents the other day and I almost puked, that's the worst crap I've ever smelled.

Nicely done there by the gals!
Whitails are rutty...although it seemed to be on and off for us the last week. (witnessed a knockdown-dragout buck fight the second day of the hunt which was freakin awesome!) I'd say it's time to go get one.
P.S. take your grunt with you!
