Rod Finishing Dryer

If you've looked at the prices for some of these in rodbuilding catalogs, I'm gonna tell ya how to save some money! Go to www.allelectronics.com and order catalog #acm-108...it's a 110v 40 rpm electric motor that is perf for turning your rod to prevent runs and sags in the finish. (Too fast? cat. # acm 104 is 4.8 rpm) I bought 2, (2.50 each), a cord (1.50) and a switch (1.25). Then, with a scrap piece of 1x6 lumber, made two uprights...notches in one, motors mounted to the other, now I can turn both sections of a two piece rod at the same time, at a total cost of less than 20 bucks. The closest thing to this in any of the catalogs will cost you well over 100! I'll have pictures and complete instructions posted soon.

Here it is...I made the chuck for the butt section out of a PVC pipe fitting...I filled the small end with epoxy, then drilled a hole in the center to fit the motor shaft. For the tip section, I use wraps of electrical tape on the shaft to make a tight fit for the ferrule.
