What is the best way to pick out thread color to go on a rod? Do I need to get a color wheel and figure out how to use it, havent seen one since my school days.
I am trying to wrap a Rainshadow olive green blank and just can't find a color that looks good to me on it. I started with a green thread and it was marginal, but I didnt like it. I tied a couple eyes in Grey and it looked bad. I use a red color and it looked like a christmas tree. I tied an eye in blue and it was not making it either. I have now tied a couple eyes in black thread and it is acceptable but does not have the flash I think I custom rod should have. (I do not have all these colors on this rod at one time )
I could have tied this rod twice with all the color changes I have made.
Any suggestions?

Roy, I have a green blank Wrapped with Metalic green and Trimmed with a Mettalic, I would call it a sea foam I guess. The numbers are 9358 for the green and 9270 for the trim. I was actually trying to figure out what color to wrap those 4 trout rods also. Take it easy, I think you should find one of those fancy wraps out of those books I loaned you to wrap on it

Roy go with a dark green then use some of the microfine holographic glitter to put in the finish. It flat looks awesome and changes color hues as you move it around. It comes in hues of different colors, just find the green hue to go with your rod. The blue hue would probably look good on the dark green rods too.
BTW it is actually a white color glitter until you look closely at it. Found at the craft store. If you can't find any I can probably round some up for you.

Marty, that sounds like a great idea. I am going to try that one out myself. I have thre rods to build for my Nieces and I am sure they would like that glitter effect. You say the craft stores Carry it?

Yup my local store does and runs about $3 for a small bottle. Enough to do a bunch of rods...doesn't take much. I orginally found the glitter in a lure body painting kit. Usually comes in a small long glass bottle or in a round container (like a smelly jelly jar) in the rubber stamp section. Guarantee you will love the stuff.
It levels out great in the epoxy finish on the wraps and one coat is all that is needed. Just make sure you get the smallest stuff.
