Local rocks

I asked to see what kind of rocks we have around the Peninsula that are unique...Jasper (a solid red and green colored rock) I see that one all the time. We also have agates and some fossils. Some trace gold and crystals. Not to technical...still learning this stuff.

Marty, My wife and I pan for that trace gold, find a few small agates but the most fun we have is finding fossils. They come in all sizes and condition...we did find a mamoth tooth on Dung. spit to the west and lots of small snails and clams at Majestic beach. It's a great hobby between seasons or when the rivers are out. As far as semi precioius stones...I really don't know. If it's pretty or unique it goes in my pocket as a "treasure"

Do you guys ever run a hand sluice real slow for
recovering rocks and gem stones?
Run at the right slope and speed they can be a real asset for fine gold and gem stone recovery.
Of course a 2 1/2" dredge will work better or even a 4 inch but will need to be run real slow and checked frequently to avoid overflowing the header.

I have done some fossil picking at Majestic..slim picking but probably pretty good after this wind storm and monsoon. Wifetobe hasn't been feeling good lately so no big outdoor trips have occured.

Never run the mini sluece. My brother is a gold mining expert so I need him to show me the basics to get some trace stuff. I will try to get him to let me copy some of the pictures he takes at the mine in Alaska.
