Petrified Wood
      #41036 - 05/20/02 04:21 AM

My wife and I went to EW with her brother this past weekend and had a ball rock hounding in the Vantage area. First we searched near a dolomite lime pit and found some awesome bog rock with crystallized centers and we brought home some opalized rock as well. Then we went to the Saddle Mountain area near Mattawa and dug for petrified wood. We found lots of small pieces and a couple of limbs. We can't wait to clean them up. We will probably polish the chips, but what to do with the large pieces? One is about 16 inchs long and 3-4 inches in diameter.

I found out that a guy a work is really into rock collecting and is part of a club. Im going to try to get together with him and see how deep he is into this hobby. Maybe it will turn out that he has a saw! And, maybe I can find out where to get cheap grit. I saw how nicely petrified wood chips polish up and can't wait to get the tumblers going again.
