I would go to the RIO lines website and see what they recommend, as a starter. The absoultely best way is to contact someone like Poppy at REDSHED (you can reach him on this site), or any of the other expert fly shops that deal in spey gear. Every line is different, and sizes do not follow exactly like they do in single had rods.

I'll give you one other very good option. Down here in Medford (Or) we have Steve Godshall who builds custom cut spey fly lines. Two major custom rod designers/builders in our immediate area and you purchase one of their rods you probably going to get one of Steve's lines to go with same.

Steve's got just about every rod ever built 'dialed in' (he has the equipment/formula) so all he had to add into the 'equation' is your casting style, fish, fishing conditions and you have a 'one off.' Just for you.

Won't cost you a penny more than a off the shelf line (no disrespect to major line manufacturers they just have to make lines at this/that grain weights/configs). As Steve's lines are all 'one off's' you need 428 grains for that rod, you get 428.

With your casting 'style' you really need a 390, that's what you'll get.

Give him a call/e-mail: stevegodshall@charter.net or 541 840 2594
