Splash mount

Any experience in the splash base creations? They sure add a look of realism to a action mount/carving.

Yep, done those too. Most start with a "water surface" of plexiglas. The ripples and splashes are cast in silicone molds, of clear acrylic. Then all the pieces are glued together, and an acrylic "artifical water" is poured over to blend all the elements together. It's a pretty time consuming job to make a good, realistic habitat base. It can easily double the amount of time/work involved in a mount (and the price as well). These are commonly used on waterfowl mounts as well as fish action mounts.

A mount of a the Monster would look incredible with a base like that? Now if a guy only had room to display a work like that. Never seen a big fish with that type of mount. They all have the standard look.

Greg's right about the process involved. Not too difficult but very time consuming (ie. expensive).

A mount like that really should go in a glass case to protect it from damage and dust, which also adds to the cost.

I like when a client wants to do a special mount like that. You get the oportunity to be more creative than on the more typical mounts.
