If you don't have one, you should get one. I bought a concrete one a few years ago and they can be very entertaining. They are much better than bird feeders since water is cheap and there is no mess. Clean water is required to get the most attention.
Last night, I had a chickadee take a quick bath. I had never seen them bathe only drink. Sparrows usually don't bathe either, but last summer a baby sparrow was watching the hordes of birds bathe and decided to join in on the fun. Keeping the bath clean and full of water at all times will train the birds to always come back. One year I had about 20 starlings come every evening. They would just about fight each other to get in the bath. When the left, the bath water was trashed.
Cheap entertainment. [ 06-13-2002, 08:53 AM: Message edited by: Born2Bonk ]

You are right on, B2B. I have a couple of places for the birds to bathe and drink. One is still water and the other has a water fall. I have observed hummingbirds dip into the waterfall in flight then dash out, and do it all over again. Just tonight I had a flicker drinking and bathing at the pond. This year I had to knock of the bird seed (feeders) because last year we started attracting rats from the barn next door. They raised havoc under our house. So, this year we have to be content with the water features and the natural food in our yard.

That's why I got rid of the feeders. RATS! along with coons, squirrels, possums, sparrow hawks, cats. The final straw was when a cat fatally wounded my pet squirrel. The sparrow hawk was pretty cool when it was hunting.
Water does just fine. The humming bird story was interesting.
