The wifetobe is a avid bird fanatic and would like to see a snowy owl in the wild. There was a reported sighting of one in the Port Townsend area last weekend. Keep those eyes peeled its time for the annual snowy watch!! If you see some please post where and when....I know somebody who would love to see it. Tight Lines

Hay Marty, are snowy owls different from barn owls? I saw a snowy at the woodland park zoo but didn’t inspect it all that well. Thought it looked like the barn owl at my parent's house. Lives on a piece of plywood in the rafters of the barn. Lots of mouse bones under the nest. In the springtime you can climb the ladder to the nest and get nose to nose w/ fuzzy owl babies. Anyway, keep my eye out.

Yup Rip they are different. They will occasionally migrate down from the artic and are white!!! Easy to see if they are around and the most common spots seen have been at the Dungeness spit bird refuge. Only happens every 5-7 years a bird strays our way....it is truly big bird watcher news when one is found. The folks who run the raptor center in Sequim told me about the Port Townsend one, but didn't have enough details for the search.

I am an avid duck hunter and have only seen 3 snowy owls in 10 years they usally stick to the salt water and will only migrate south if it gets real cold.Your best chance to see one is in january.
