Southwest Washington Mushrooms
      #45459 - 10/15/02 07:28 AM

Is there anyone here in Vancouver that really knows what they are looking at in the field? I really like mushrooms and want to learn to ID the local wild crop but am too chicken to trust a book and maybe hurt my family by bringing home a dangerous one.

River rat I am in the same boat. I live in Burnaby and have been checking some fields and pastures. My target are the little brown shrooms that grow in cow pastures. I have heard in Surrey and Langley you can get them in farmers fields. I know what they look like but I haven't had any luck yet. Keep me posted or email me if you like. Cheers Skip..

Rat the book mushrooms demystified it the best book. I gives you the basic knowledge for identifing the mushrooms and precautions for the various types. Don't just trust what somebody says if you plan on harvesting them for your family.

Skip those will land you in jail here in the states. But your looking in the right area.

Skip was wondering what the fishing is like after you pick shrooms? If your ever down this way the ones your after are thick in the Kent Valley from Oct. to mid Dec.

If I pick a bunch down your way, I wopuld have to eat them all while I was there. Dam! I know there are lots up here in farmers fields, I just don't like to trespass. So will keep checking lawns and the woods. Cheers Skip

Where I am from in So. Oregon we used to get tons of Morel mushrooms, and the locations were closely held family secrets. My question is this....are there morels in the surrounding puget sound area? Just a yes or no is plenty!

Thanks!

Morels are found in the old burn areas of eastern wash. don't think the climate is right on the west side.
