Still finding good chanterelles. Getting real selective, as many are past their prime, frost -dinged, and discolored. Best mushrooms have been found in damp areas of moss, shady draws, and salal/Oregon grape patches. Little quality left in more open areas. Anybody else still looking?

took this weekend off.... Our best finds tend to be sheltered. We will find them through November if it rainssssss to keep the temps warm. Might as well go picking fishing is all shut down.

I hope the chanterelles hold up until Thanksgiving. My mushrooming partner makes a stuffing that requires four different kinds of mushrooms, so we're always looking for chanterelles just before the holiday. One year we gathered them in snow, the season's first. That was cool! Last year, we found a chanterelle, in prime condition, two days after Christmas. Maybe the weekend rain will keep 'em coming. We did find a number of buttons this weekend. Tried something different today; gathered a bunch of black walnuts. They're going in the Christmas fudge. Didn't think the chanterelles would work so well there.

Try close to sea level, I find some real nice ones down low in mid November.

I'll try the low elevations in Nov. Thanks for the tip. We hit 25 degrees this morning. Don't know what a couple days of lows like that will do to the chanterelles. We've been picking at the 1500 ft. level, lately.
