Lazer sight new
      #47748 - 02/04/03 06:14 PM

Just installed a small (bout the size of a AA battery) Lazer sight to the side of the scope on my HK-91 G3... kinda neat. All I did was center the lazer dot to my scope cross hair's at 50 yards and it's dead on.....pretty powerful, can see red dot on side of building 500 yards away.... don't even need to aim, just put red dot on what you want to shoot.... anyone else miss around with lazer sights?

Slip on the night vision goggles and the deer are as good as dead! Get caught hunting at night, with night vision and a lazer scope and you'll wish you were dead though.

I have a friend that put a lazer sight on his rifle for hunting which is not legal so what he did was make a holder for it that slipped over the barrel. Since the barrel was tapered slightly, he sanded the inside of his holder until it would slide almost all the way back. Then he adjusted it until it pointed where he wanted. Seemed to be very accurate and taking it off and sliding it back on didn't affect the aim too much. The reason for the holder is so he could slip it on when he needed it, then take it back off real quick.

You know this, but I'm just pickin on ya.
That would only work at 50 yds. If you're zero'd at 50 and you aim the dot at 500, well, even with a nice hot 308 load, you'll not exactly be making the shot you thought you were. (see that puff of dirt in front of that trophy deer?)

POACHING new [Re: Gary_T]

Hope he gets caught some day. For your sake, I hope you're not 'hunting' with him.

Me poach? Uh, no. Not that they make it real easy to stay within the law. I mean obvious stuff like spot lighting, using lazer sights, shooting from your vehicle or off of a highway is easy to figure out. But when you get the huting regulations and you sit down and read them, some of that stuff can be quite cofusing to a newbie like me.

I think we all have a friend who is an idiot. Maybe I've met some people who are dumber than most, but if that's the case, it's only because I've met a lot of strange people. Some of them unfortunately don't feel that the laws apply to them. Who I know should not adversely affect how people view me and my actions however.

I have never broken the law hunting or fishing. I did come close once when I was fishing and I still feel that I was right in the situation, but the game warden felt differently and since he's the law, he won the argument. The deal was that I caught a bass on a small lake in SD. I thought it was a large mouth and he thought it was a smallie. According to everything I have read, the fish I caught was a large mouth. The jaw was well behind the eye which from what I've read is one of the best ways to differentiate between the two. The game warden said that the coloring was that of a smallie, so I had to release the fish. It would have made a great supper, but if indeed he was right, then that's fine. It was not my intention to break the law and I had gotten out the regulations pamplhet, checked the photo, read the section on how to tell the difference, and asked three other people their opinions. They all agreed with me that it was a large mouth, but as I said, the game warden had the final say.

I hope this clears up any misconception that I would hunt with someone who would break the law, or that I myself would ever break the law hunting or fishing. I may not always agree with some of the laws we have but when that is the case, I'll write or call the appropriate people, voice my opinion, and do what I can that way.
