Wild turkey on Snoqualmie Pass
      #55138 - 04/13/03 09:33 PM

Yesterday, on a trip to Alpenthal, we spotted a wild turkey feeding on the grassy median along I-90. This was just before we came to the 50 milepost marker, which is getting close to the summit. It might have been an "escapee", or the WDFW might have planted some birds in the area. This bird was on the median between the westbound and eastbound lanes of the freeway. Hope it's a strong flier...

A buddy of mine saw a couple of turkeys in that area about a month ago, I saw one myself here in North Bend about 2 years ago. There is someone that raises them for kicks and lives by exit 38, supposedly some have "escaped", maybe that is where the birds came from. Doesn't seem like the habitat is right for them in the mountains, maybe that is why they are hanging around I-90, but hey, I hope they establish themselves, be nice to have some back yard turkey hunting!

I'd rather be fishing
