I am looking at getting an over and under double barrel shotgun. I can't decide between a Ruger Red Label and the Browning Citori Lightning. I am currently leaning toward the Ruger. If anyone has experience with eihter of these and wants to share some thoughts it would be appreciated.

Hmmm, tough choice. I've shot both. Both are fine shotguns. If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the Ruger. This is because the Ruger just fit me better. When you are choosing between two guns of equal quality and price range, I feel that fit should be the deciding factor.
I realize that stock length can be altered easily, but there's other aspects of gun fit to consider also. Hold each one at "low ready", close your eyes then shoulder the gun as if you are going to shoot a target, open your eyes and see what the sight picture looks like. If your sighting right down the barrel ready to hit a target that's what you want. Do this several times with each gun and perhaps the gun will choose you. This works with just about any firearm.

Thanks Trailrat. I have checked them both out and like the feel of each one. I have learned that the Citori is now made in Japan and that Rugers are still made here in the States. I am sure the Citori is still of good quality, but I like to buy American made things when I can. To sum it up I am going with a Ruger.

Kinda makes me jealous...

I've been wanting to get back into shooting skeet. Are you going to shoot at a local club, or just use it for hunting...

I just recently tried sporting clays for the first time, it is a lot of fun. I used to shoot a lot when I was a kid and kind of got away from it for a few years. My buddy just joined a club and I have gone with him a few times. I forgot how much fun it is. I'll get out and turn some clay to dust when I can, but it will be my field gun as well.

Oh no, don't tell me you got the Ruger. Have you heard about all the problems that people have been having with them? No, no, just joking. You just placed an order on a very fine well built shotgun.

I made a good choice getting the Ruger. These are nice guns to shoot and a lot of fun. If you are thinking about getting an over/under these are definately worth checking out.
