Oyster Mushrooms
      #55672 - 04/19/03 10:25 PM

Found a oyster mushroom log today..... still no real morels yet. the search continues. We did find some false morels today where we found the "early morels" last time out.

Still hunting for the right ground but it may be over before we find a decent local patch.

What's the best environment for finding morels right now? Is it peak season? I've always wanted to go mushroom hunting. Maybe this is the weekend....

Okay, Sunday is definitely the day, then.

Do you know a good book on mushroom hunting? What elevation would you target? What kind of ground? semi-swampy, or will they grow in drier areas? We've thought of a few places where cottonwoods are prevalent. Some of them are over snoqualmie pass, so it might be too early there...

The lower lands are where the ones i know of that are being picked. Mushrooms Demystified is a great book. Don't eat any unless you can positively identify them. You must be very cautious when starting out since many of them look similar.
