I have seen quite a bit of his work, and his craftsmanship is excellent. Plus, he uses quality materials. Decent pricing as well. I will own one soon!

Someone posted some pics of a rod they had built up by these guys. I don't remember if it was here or over at "that other place"...
Truthfully I didn't like the look of the rod pictured, it had way too much color in the wraps. But I imagine that the builder can do anything that you request...
I too am looking for a "Local" builder for my next Rainshadow...
The main point of my post was to direct you to search the archives to see if you can find the post and pics that I remember...

I too own a TH wrapped Rainshadow... They do a great job on the rods they build. But I have two complaints/critisizms...
The standard guides they use are cheap, too cheap for a "custom" rod. I have had to glue the rings back in on two guides already. I baby that rod more than I do any other one I own, so I know it's not from abuse...
I also have an issue with their recent customer service that a good friend of mine is getting right now... Hopefully it will soon be resolved, for he has been without his primary driftrod for nearly 8 weeks.

For starters, Bruce has been a member here for longer than I have. He also has his own board. I met him last summer.... he is a great guy!
You might remember his wife though.... Her picture was everywhere. Avis caught that huge humpy a year and a half ago that I believe is a world record?

I'll do that CS. I think that I just need to take the plunge myself and start wrapping my own. I'm already starting to design my wrapping/drying stand. But I'm hesitant to purchase high end components for my first go at it. If I do start building my own rods I think the first two will be matching plug rods for my DB...

Well I did a little searching to figure out what I didn't like about that NWCR that I referenced in my first reply on this thread.
Here's the pics
I don't like the lettering, which Bruce apparently didn't do. I also don't like the wrap above the lettering. Which he most likely did to frame the owners lettering. So it would seem that the things I don't really like about that build was done by or at the request of the owner. The quality looks good, but I would have liked to see some of the guide wraps too. I'm sure that he does great work, my original post was not meant as a slam on his quality, but I was mearly trying to point someone to a thread about NWCR's work. TR it's not that hard to wrap just take your time. I started with a $15 blank with a total cost of about $55 I figgered if I messed up it would be better than a $100 blank if you decide to do it you should buy Tom Kirkman's "Rod-Building Guide" very informative and easy to follow with lots of pics.

The "green" blanks are the 51 Million Modulus series I believe, and are only available in the fly fishing models.
Roy, Can you back me up on that?

TallFlyGuy - All of the olive green blanks are not 51 mil mod.
Rainshadow has been introducing all of their rods in both olive green and matte. I believe all of the salmon steelhead rods are now available in both matte and olive green in the RX7 (43 mil mod)

We use the standard H'ring Forecst guides.. and have had very little trouble with the rings... and no problems with the SicTi guides.
As for the warrany rod ?? The only thing we have had on warranty that long isa fly rod that has been on BO for some time.. no drift rods?

My friend, Big Len, bought his 1143c from you after reading positive responses from other posters from "That Other Board" and from fishing my TH1085c that you wrapped up for me.
During the second or third time he fished it the rod broke.
He called you and recieved instructions to ship it back. He was told it would be repaired "in a week or two"...
On March 26th he mailed the rod and $40 to you. 3 weeks go by and he had not recieved the rod back. So he started calling to check on it's progress. After several call's he was finally told that the blank was on back order.
That was all he heard until May the 28th when his rod was delivered to him.
It took less time to order, build and deliver my driftboat than it took to get a rod, that im my opinion was flawed from the factory, repaired...
A simple phone call or letter after the initial time quoted for repairs had passed would have went a long way...
That's poor customer service in my book, therefore I will not be ordering anymore TH rods...
As far as the guides on my TH1085... I guess I have one that is in the "very little trouble" camp...

We had a few blank on back order this spring.. but with the new factory, Baston seems to have everything going strong now.
All of our warranty gets to priority! We average just a couple week turn around.. but we do have those occasions that it takes longer.. and many that take less.
L.Lowe was one that took a while longer , but sometimes our hands our tied.. we just couldn't get the blank!
This year we are carrying a huge inventory just incase this happens.. turn around times shou dbe excellent!

shane is right, that is bad customer service, i think somthing should be done on the TH side to make it right or i wont be buying a TH rod anytime soon, or telling anyone how "great" they are.
id much rather buy loomis from auburn sports, pay no return fee and get the rod same day no questions ask.
that long without a rod is weeks of pissed off fishing, esp when it was supposed to take one or two weeks.
step up to the plate on this one TH, you know you were in teh wrong (sending back the repair money would go a long ways in my book)

I have one of the TH rods and haven't had any problems with it. Nice wrap and so far so good. The only thing I can complain about would be a lack of warrantee when compared to the Lumis rods but its understandable when you think about someone building you custom rods.
If I buy another rod from here on out it will more than likely be from auburn sports due to the lifetime no questions asked warrantee and after fishing my gl3 and the rainshadow side by side there is no comparison. The lumis is more sensitive. Maybe the rainshadow should be compared more to the gl2?

Rainshadow makes different modulus blanks so the one you have could be comparable to a gl2. They also offer a higher end rod too..

Hmmm, the rod I have is one of the 43 million modulus blanks. RX7? I didnt realize they offered anything else except for in the fly rod blanks where they carry 51 million? You tell me. Are those gl2 comparable or gl3? These are the ones that everyone was telling me were comparable to the gl3.

The IST1025 is rated as 43 million modulus. Just so you are aware, modulus rating is mostly a marketing issue, there is much more that goes into blank performance than just modulus ratings. It is my understanding that Rainshadow uses a graphite scrim vs a fiberglass scrim that most other manufacturers use. There is also blank design that is a variable, cross section diameter, wall thickness, taper etc.. The way a rod is setup will have a great effect on it's performance as well, smaller lighter guides result in superior performance.
I would suggest that you don't get to caught up in the modulus equation, it is relevant, but not the end all when rating blanks.
