Hi everybody, SH69 has convinced me to come on back, so I'm back I'm gonna go small stream hopping on June 1st for opening day trout with my ultralight and/or 3wt, and was wondering- what are your fave baits, lures and flies for trout in small streams? The streams I'll be fishing are from 5-10 feet across for the most part. Dominant species will be cutts, I'm sure. Thanks for any info!

My all time favorite cutty lures are Mepps Spinners size "0" - "2" in Silver, Copper, and Red/White. Also a few years back I started pitching those little Dick Nite spoons into the Naselle and Palix rivers with Excellent results. The spoons are great for small streams, you can cast em to the slow water and they are still light enough to be drifted through the riffles.
Good Fishing!

For my local trout creek fishing I have done best with red wiggler worms, cluster eggs, and dry flies. Never really did much nymph fishing for them. Dry flies are my favorite for the small creeks when fly fishing, provided theres enough room to get it on the slick.
Royal coachman dry... something about that touch of white, Provide theres not a stone fly hatch going on. I have seen some termites flying so in the right water caddis dries work great.
Welcome back ben..

thanks folks! looks like I'll head out with some stonefly and caddis imitations and royal coachmen for the flies, a few dick nites and panther martins/mepps, and some soft plastic worms and eggs. the real things might not hold up too well after the first 10 hours of fishing any particular sizes of those flies seem to work especially well, martinus?

depends on how clear the creek is... in the stone and caddis I like 10-12 and 12 in the coachman.

Heres my favorite stream lure. I have had 100 fish days on cuttthroat trout in steams on these the work great for steelhead too. For trout on small streams i just free drift them on a #1 gami. They slide down the line like a corky. No bait no mess and easy release.

wow, those look nice! looks to me like a hot glue head, pink marabou tail, and purple and red yarn flared out between the hot glue and the tail, tied on a tube. Lemme know if that's right. how long are those?

I call them gooey puffs. Close MOS, I tie yarn and marabou onto a clear plastic tube that I run up through the center of a Jensen egg. I thought these up a few years ago while looking at them sloths and rags.
