Just thought I'd cover this here now, so that there is no confusion. I want this to become a very fun and informative section. I know that with flyfishing, discussions can be heated when it comes to catch and release, fly only waters, etc. Politics does come into play as well. I'd now like to add some ground rules to help keep things rolling smoothly. Also, helps those who strictly come to this area and no others on the board.
There are sections on the board associated with regulation changes, polictical stances, and anything that has caused heated discussions in the past on other boards. This area is NOT for that. If one wants to talk about where to find fly only water, GREAT! If one wants to talk about making "X" river fly only, then go to the "Announcements" area and you'll find the forum marked "Science, Proposals, Regulations and Legislation". This way, the heat will go there, keeping our area simply flyfishing. A good way for fly only, fence sitters (like myself) and pure gear guys with an interest in "flyfishing" to join in for friendly discussions. Friendly banter is always welcome. If I find anything slipping by as "regs, etc" will be moved. Plus, if by chance I miss something, or if anyone is being harassed in anyway let me know. I WILL NOT stand for open bashing that is meant in a rude manner. It will be eliminated immediately, and a warning will be sent. If it keeps up, I will either put that person in private moderation, or ban all together. We are ALL anglers, and deserve to be civil, even if we don't agree. I want this area to grow, and together this area will flourish. If you're new here, and enjoy this site, invite your friends. All are welcome. Plus, none of us know everything (well, except me, but we won't go there )so the more the merrier.
Thanks for reading this. No need to respond about regs since I brought it up. Just an FYI.
Ok, Fred and Hal, let's have that

Jerry,
Right on. BTW, from what I have seen the fishing regulations in the PNW are much more complicated than ours in the GLs. I feel for you fellows, mut be tought to figure out. Here the andramous rivers are basically open 7X24 except for the nursery head waters which follow the general trout fishing closures each year. The GLs themselves are open to fishing all year so its rather simple for us here. Actually I have not looked at the Michigan regs in a long time as they have not changed much.
The biggest change was last year with the hook size limitation to max. 1/2 inch gap hook size 10 months of the year in all andramous rivers. Unfortunatley they have not gone to mandatory barbless hooks anywheres in GL country to my knowledge.
Freds up at the NU this weekend taking the steelheader graduate course on maybe the toughest steelhead river in NA particularly with their new fly regulations.

I don't know if this is a good idea. We've got an evil bait dunking gear chucker running this forum. And I see Black Ghost is a F.I.B.
Just kidding guys.

Lets it put this way we won't be able to define it on the public forumn.
I have been in Chicago only 17 years so don't know if I really qualify anyway.

I spent the summer of '01 in Wisconsin. I guess the largest migration of FIBs into Wisconsin is during deer season.
Do you get "Old Stale" in Chicago?
The picture in my avatar was taken on the job in Wisconsin.

Also many FIBS all year to Wisconsin from ILL for all types of outdoor recreation, you name it Wisconsin has it plus some great fishing of all fresh water types. I however do not fish it that much since I know Michigan and Indiana much better (I lived in South Bend, Indiana for 7 years right on the Michigan state line). Michigan has better trout, salmon, and steelhead fishing in my opinion. Thats what I know very well and what is closest to me so that is where I spend basically all of my fishing time.
Yes we have Old Style all over Chicago. I have not that drinken that in years. When I go fishing in Michigan I drink Old Milwaukee, that my lucky beer for 23 years of GLs steelheading, since I caught first steelhead in 81 in Michigan. Everyone has to have a lucky beer when fishing.
Those are some nice carp there is some great carp fishing out here and on the fly rod if you are into that. Reminds me I have to get my IL license so I can start to hit some local carp hot spots with the fly rod. Great fighters and very tough to catch.

When I was there it seemed like every tavern had an Old Style sign out front, but the guys I worked with said it was nasty. My last Friday there, after about a dozen Budweisers, I had an Old Stale and almost threw up.
There were days when the bottom of our 16' jon boat was covered in carp. Some days my clothes were soaked with carp slime. We gave a few to a guy from the local sportsman's club who smoked them for us. They were so nasty nobody would eat 'em, but we think spawning season and the 75+ degree water may have had something to do with the taste.
It sounds like the GL steelheading is better than I thought.

Whatever you do Jerry don't let the sponcers run the forum There is another site where i was asked not to recommend rods to people because the manufacturer I work for doesn't advertise on that site. I am done with that site.

No problem. I actually encourage testimonials. Like to hear what is liked and disliked. If we get a flyfishing sponsor (which would be nice) they will have to deal with hearing others talk about thiers, and others, products. I feel it helps them improve thier product line, or hear the praises that way.

Yes, I was admonished for that on one other major fly fishing site to date and I have been to many beleive me. LOL. It was hard to tell who was a sponsor or not at that time on that site, so I just stopped posting any links to fly fishing vendors which of course diluted the quality of every ones posts and the information that could be shared.
"Free at last free" to link as I like. LOL

Yup, I only will have a problem if it's spam. I have caught a few in the past (none in the fly area) that have had pseudo nicknames spamming a product as a "customer", only to be really the owner. But if it's linking up to a product you endorse, then so be it. I find nothing wrong with it.

Love this one:
7. FIB 42 up, 19 down
1. Fuckin' Illinois Bastard
2. Annoying individual from Metro Chicago who thinks they're the salt of the earth and everyone who lives in a city of less than 100,000 should bow down and thank them for their presence. These obnoxious folks can be identified by their nasal voices and huge-ass SUVs (usually towing a 100 ft long trailer full of snowmobiles to northern Wisconsin)
3. Dumb individual from Metro Chicago who would pay fortune for something that is actually worth a quarter of what they actually paid.
4. Jerk from Chicago who has the illusion that Northern Wisconsin would not exist without their tourist dollars.
5. Outdoorsman poser who thinks "roughing it" means sleeping in a $30,000 camper.
6. Clown from Metro Chicago who complains endlessly that "It's better in Chicago" after retiring to Northern Wisconsin.
I don't want to go to the bar tonight. It's Labor Day weekend and the bar will be full of obnoxious FIBs.
Shop Owner: Heh Heh! I could put a coat of glazing over a pile of dogshit and some FIB would probably pay $100 for it as long as I stamp Made In Cheeseland on it. Hey Fido!! Here's some bean burrito for ya! Good boy!! Eat up- there's more from where that came from!
HA HA - and they think we're stupid!!
FIB: How come there isn't a band playing tonight? In Chicaaaago there is something going on every night. What kind of hick town is this?
BAR OWNER: Well, (mockingly) Go back to Chicaaago or shut the [**whoops**] up before I shove this beer glass up your ass.
FIB: Let's go Muriel. These peeeeople are uncultured swines.
FIBETTE: Okay Taylor. I'm getting a little schaaared here. Is the SUV full of ghaaaaaaas?

Fred, I think he has his "nose to the grindstone"! I guess they cracked down on "unauthorized web site use" and put him to work!
Either that, or the "princess", or he has "other interests" (like a young mistress), or he's getting old.....
