When are your hunts?
      #67137 - 07/23/03 12:06 PM

I drew a ML cow permit in GMU 340. I went ML this year on deer and elk. It can be way too hot in Oct. in Eastern Wa. I can always ML hunt Western Wa. for deer. In a way it is nice having deer and elk open together, but I suspect it won't be my kind of hunting weather. (snow!!) I think we will be lucky if the woods are even open to the public if we don't get some rain before Oct 4th. Bill

Manastash, eh? Cook Canyon? Been there.

My muley doe is Dec 9 - Jan 31. It's going to be strange being the only soul in this area that time of year. Will hunt 3pnt or better in the same place for the general opener as we've done the past. The change to 3pnt minimum has really improved the hunting for decent bucks. There's always a few around now where in the past, 3 pnts were few and far between.

I wonder if the deer will be skinnier or fatter Jan1 vs Oct1. My guess is skinnier. It's tough enough now finding a fat one in October in this sage brush.

Come Oct 25th is spike only for me up Stampede pass. I don't get too serious about this being it's spike only. Just driving around a few times on top of the Cascades with the thought of getting a shot is enough for me. The wife last year was really getting into the "thrill of the hunt" once we got up top with the beautiful scenery.

My cow elk tag is Jan 1-15th in the news Grays River AHE area between Naselle and Cathlamet. Should be fun. I have never been there, but a coworker's son works for a roadbuilding company in the area and will give me a tour of the area soon.

Gotta hunt with the general public for deer during the ML season. I will probably not hunt during the early season in October, concentrating my efforts in the Satsop unit when it is any deer. It would be nice to get a limit of silvers AND a deer on a float down the Satsop. More like a cast and Kaboom, than cast and blast.

My work-bud took a huge mulie a couple of weeks ago. It was a 5x6 with a really big body. Super deer for Wa. state....
