Hoodsport Humpies new
      #66316 - 07/18/03 06:14 PM

Ran down the canal today to check and it looks like the Humpies are down at Hoodsport in fishable numbers. Surprised that not many people know about using a pink jig soaked in shrimp oil under a float.

No need for Hoodsport as 5 miles down the road the humpies come in the largest numbers entering the Snohomish system, check them numbers and you will see we get a few
But an excuse to go on GooseEgg charters may be in order, maybe for a few of them strays and some crab and a toasted marshmallow latte.....
I will further investigate possibilities at our favorite Cafe'

Ron1....ever wonder why my boat is called GoooseEgg Charters? BW cnr'd several small cutties and his first humpy....barbless hook popped out while BW let the fish inspect the bottom of my boat. I'll let BW or Aud' add any other details they wish to reveal .

VW you'd be better off to hit the shoreline just north of Hoodsport if you want to avoid the hatchery scene....toss pink bladed mepps spinners or similar.

Hey Ron1,
To be fishing within any special regs for the hoodsport zone you need to be inside of the buoys regardless what the folks on the bank or other boaters say. I haven't looked to see if there are any special limits for inside the zone with pinks...Gooose...you know??

Ron1's visit is going to cost AuntyM dearly. Ron1 no sooner left the driveway than Caveman was telling me that he could no longer see to weld and just has to have a new welding helmet.

For some odd reason, Caveman could see to weld just fine BEFORE Ron1 told him about the new ADJUSTABLE electronic helmet!

I will pay Ron1 back for this.

there wasnt many boats out sunday, but if the fish show you can bet the boats will be there also. well im not apro at float fishin but you want your jig about a foot off the bottom, so you'll need to adjust your float accordingly..
water 3ft. deep set float 2 ft. above jig..

VW you'll spot schools of pinks finning on the surface in depths from 5 feet to all the way out in 50 feet of water.
3 feet of leader should work on these. Warning they will drive you nuts.

For some reason Gooose did not like the bannana boat brand sun screen we were using . I managed to create a very interesting tangle in my spinning reel ( no wonder I like casting reels) . Oh yes nailed the wifes Alstar rod with a spinner and snaped that puppy off just above the feral. You know the tip of a rod is a real small target. can't tell me I don't know how to aim.

But it was a great day and if nothing else we kept Gooose Entertained.

Had a good time chasing pinks yesterday the 1st. A good time was made great by adding Caveman, Aunty, BW and Dolphin Lady.

Caveman helped get a guy that was stuck off the ramp this was after Aunty completely and snobbily ignored my good morning to her

We ended up with 8 legally hooked fish, foul hooked a few, lost more that were I am sure snagged for a second. The Buzz Bombers are disgusting out there, the lack of enforcement tells me that it is "legal". There is a part of me that understands but it sure makes it hard to fish correctly with buzz bombs coming in from 300' away.

Fun anyway and chrome fish.

I can verify this. We ended up with NADA! However, Fishdoc's boat, and two others were hammering them without the "reel and jerk" method. BW had a couple of nibbles that didn't stick. Oh well...

The crabs we got were nice. I guess I better tell Gooose where to crab in the south end of the canal. (roll eyes)

MORNING JIM! (better late than never, and he was in his pickup and it was still dark. Ya have to be careful who you chat with under those circumstances. He might have tried to offer me candy and lure me into his truck or sumthin!)

I fished for humpies and kings 8/26 thru 8/31 and caught nothing. But I didnt feel to bad sense I only saw maybe a half dozen fish caught all pinks. And I spent most of my time fishing for kings away from the zoo at the hatchery.I cound not believe the number of people fishing the hatchery on the weekend.
