Anyone ever build their own before?? Is it cheaper to go buy one??
I have access to a full blown shop. But what in the world do you use for an axle?? I've seen someone mention using the rear end of a front wheel drive car?? I'm only looking at a 1000-1500lb trailer and buy the time I buy the official trailer axle and hardware I may as well buy one of those 4x8 trailers that are good for about 950 lbs or so.

I actually built one off an old driftboat trailer I bought for $75. Have a total of about $150 invested, and it's alot better, and more durable, then those utilities you'll find. If you want to build your own, since you have access to a shop, call any of those trailer places about an axle. You can get them at Six Robblees too. Just an option.
But nice thing about mine, I have it a multipurpose trailer. Can put a DB on it, cataraft, or use it for hauling. Has a tilt to boot. So easy to unload some stuff out of it.

I'd thought of the drift boat trailer idea too. I'm basically looking for any cheap trailer I can get a hold of at this point.

Woodsy, does free work for you? We have an old single axle boat trailer you could have if you want to cut, weld and paint. I believe it was for a 17' glass boat.

Guess I better get the wire harness on my truck ASAP.
Do you know if the wiring on it is good or should I pick that up too before venturing home with it??
Does it have a title?? If not does anyone know whats involved with getting one??
Jeez, still kind of speechless........

Woodsy, the other Woodsy (Wayne) can tell you, we have a lot of spare boat junk that was left here by a former tenant. Several boats/trailers were in the mix. The previous owner does not want this junk and is leaving US to dispose of.
We may be able to get you a title it if necessary. Sometimes, just telling licensing you made a home built trailer is enough to get it titled/licensed though.
What I did with Wayne was email him some pics so he could tell if it was worth his while. So expect some pics!

BEWARE of the homemade trailer thing. You have to have it weighed (WSP doesn't do this anymore, so you have to take to an alternate source, may have a # of someplace that does it free). Then you have to take the trailer to the WSP for inspection. Once you have the inspection, you take form from WSP to the licensing. It costs you $50 for the inspection and then cost to license. I know this because we've rebuilt a horse trailer and have been doing all the investigating. Used to be simple, now the state is dipping into your pockets this way too (used to be free).
If you can, do a "lost title". Hopefully the trailer still has plates on it. If it does, you can take the that # in, say you were given an abandoned trailer, and you'll get off MUCH cheaper. I know with my trailer, it's gonna cost in the range of $100 for the licensing (weigh, WSP inspection, relicense, and new plates). So just a warning. If you have a title, or at least a license plate, you're much better off.

I don't think those cheapy little trailers come with a license. I wonder if they have to go through the same hoops too.
I see the state now has a tinted windows task force. They say it's because they can't see who is in the car. YA RIGHT.......... it's because they can't see if you have your seat belt on for more $$$$$$
KOMO said that 2 tinted windows tickets will cost you $202 and on the 3rd they impound your vehicle.

In any case, the license plate is still on the trailer AND Caveman emailed the owner about title and bill of sale.

Woodsy, you have to have them licensed actually. But it's not too bad with those, I think they are able to be directly licensed though. Luckily M has the plate. That saves you BIG TIME. I'm in process of looking for a scrap trailer just to get the plate. LOL. That way I can just go that route.
