Infection! new
      #72940 - 09/01/03 06:52 PM

My lab (Kobie the wonder dog) contracted some type of funky infection and had to take him to the vet today. (Yes, my vet came in on Labor day for a tidy extra sum) Anyway, he didnt even know what it was but the 1st sign was a lump on top of his head to the left of his smart bump. It opened up and bled a little then started oozing some sort of smelly goo. Then the glands under his jaw in his neck started swelling and he had several other small bumps on top of his head. Doc. thinks it started with an ear infection and its coming out of his skin...sounds a little wierd to me but I'm not the one with a degree in vet medicine.
Anyway, couple hundred bucks later and I have some salve, some anti-inflamatories and some penecillin. Oh, and Kobie is shaved on the spots where he was oozing and looks like a mongrel. Im supposed to soak the sores once a day and put the salve on it and feed him all the pills till the infection goes away.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this type of thing before and gotten a little firmer diagnosis than "its an infection of some kind."

Allergic reaction to a bee sting maybe?

Bee sting was my 1st thought too and I ignored the 1st bump thinking it was just that. Anyway, whatever it is has dissipated greatly after just 24 hrs. of treatment and Kobie the Wonder dog is chasing Peaches the Moronic cat around the house again. He still looks like a mongrel and the skin in the shaved spots looks pepperoni in a microscope.
