Salmon fishing “COULDN”T BE BETTER,” say the folks at the marina. There are plenty of salmon around and anglers are limiting out on pinks, hatchery coho and springs. There were some big fish too. A 62.4 lb Chinook was caught on Saturday off Otter Point on an anchovy fished at 55 feet in a Glow Scale Anchovy Special Teaser Head. Sunday, a 51 lb spring was caught off Otter Point. Several fish in the 40’s were also caught on the weekend, as well as quite a few in the 30’s. A very good weekend! Otter Point, Secretary (Donaldson) Island, Possession Point and Sherringham Point were the best locations for big springs. Anchovy has definitely been the favored bait for springs with the best depth to troll being 40 to 90 feet. The Scale Anchovy Specials, especially in green or chartreuse, have really produced. The tide lines and the shipping lanes have been the best places to fish for pinks and hatchery coho. The best artificial baits for the humpies have been Pink Mini Squirts or Pink Shrimp Squirts. Early morning, dusk, and the end of the ebb tide and the late afternoon have been the bite times.
