Just curious who's going out and where? I was going to head down to the Nooch and see if I could hit some summerruns. But, forgot about two things. Have to get hay in Eastern Washington for RG's horses tomorrow, and a birthday party at my Step brothers house. Put it at midday, screws up heading down there for the day damned it.
So, what are you all up to. I know Hal is hitting one of the GL tribs today. Slacker.

No, I'm just "cooling it" now, waiting for the runs to start locally. Big thing is I beat Hal to the punch - he was bragging to me via e-mail on the 9th that he would be "first" to get into the fish. (I had already planned to go to the Salmon River the next morning anyway, but wasn't publicizing it.) I'm not fond of the Salmon River, as it usually boasts big crowds. But the 10th was early enough so it wasn't "combat" fishing.
My answering e-mail reply back to him (after I took the trip) started out, "I WON!"

I am planning on hitting one of my Nevada mountain resivoirs for some Bows. Some gear guys Iknow have been coonin em in the 18-24 inch range and so I will take the poontoon boats up there and hope those little #18 olive's are still hatching.
The hatch is so heavy in August that the fish will cruise in pods with dorsals out of the water raking the bugs in. Its a stalk and cast situation with dryflys. I am hoping the wife can get her first trout on a dry fly.

Well most of the rivers that I fish have a lot of water moving down them and some are dirty from the rain. But I seldom fish on weekends. Don't like crowds. Combat fishing is not my bag.

I'll probably do an evening trip saturday, then a morning trip sunday. I'm still not sure where. Maybe the north fork, maybe the skagit, or I might even float the lower sky. I'll see how the rivers look and then decide. I may or may not be fly fishing.

I floated saturday on the skagit, hammered the piss out of silvers and humpies on pink marabou flash flies on a type 3 sinktip, I hit 24 on flys and at least 15 on spoons, man my arms are tired...

How big were these silvers and humpies yes I know about days like these but with kings 15-30 lbs man were we tired fighting them sometimes over 20 fish days and no landings.
Hit some kings on friday see report in GLs section.
Nice to have some GLs recognition BTW.

Nothing too huge, silvers running between 4-9 lbs and and humpies about the same, except for one that was an epic battle on my new 7 weight that I would guess went about 12, so all in all no monsters, but great action on a fly rod and light spoon rod. Got so tired of fishing we blew off the reamaining two miles or so of fishable water just because we were exhausted...

Out on the upper Rogue on sunday morning; nothing to show for it but 'dinks.' But the good news is they're finally lowering the stream flows which will pull the fish together.
Water has been too high for 'good' fly rod fishing, but with the 50% reduction they're planning over the next week fishing conditions should be premo by this weekend. A good thing as I've got a dozen fellows coming down to fish over the next few days.
With 8 some thousand summer runs and several thousand fall Kings in the upper river it could be an interesting weekend. fae

turns out I was unable to get any fishing in this weekend. Had to spend all Sunday scraping and scrubbing eggs off my porch, walls and front door. 7 eggs in all. Stupid little butthead that did this is going to pay.

Damned Ben. What did you do? Tell some kid he couldn't fish since he used gear????
Yeah, I hated that. Wait a tick. I was the kid doing that when I was in high school. LOL. Actually, never anything that bad. And, we normally cleaned up afterwards. Unless the people were asses. Usually though, it was pranks on our friends, and we'd clean up the next day (so wouldn't go overboard doing it).
Sucks though. Was gone all day sat. getting hay, and all day sun. at a party.

Looks like it should a good time had by all. Last count (and I think I'm a tad low) was 15 folks for the looong weekend. Several are coming up to start fishing as early as tomorrow. With the water flows dropping by 100 cfs per day, fly fishing conditions will be 'premo' in a day or two.
Latest 'count' by the Game dept puts the summer steelhead population at well over 8,000 fish now, plus a wad of fall kings mixed in the group. The lower water conditions will move the fish together, and into water far better for slow swinging flys.
Water has been great for weeks, but the 'speed' of the flow has kept the hook-ratio down for most of us. Fish sees fly ...ZIP!! ...it's gone by. fae

We had some neighbors who were asses, even sued us in court for horses crapping on the road once.. What they did not know was that Jan had some Skunk scent that he had extracted from a skunk to sell. One night when they came home it appeared that a skunk had been able to spray on all the doors and windows..and he did it numerous times in the months ahead..

Yeah - reminds me of one. We had a guy in the neighborhood that was a mean SOB to us kids on a continuous basis, blamed us for everything, and was a general pain in the a$$. One of the kids caught a skunk on his trapline, removed the "juice", and during the night, crawled under his pristine "Model A", (he used to wash it every week) and loaded up some on the manifold.
The guy would come out of the house, look under the car, drive the car (windows down), stop, get out, look under the car... Even during the winter, when it was 20 below, he would drive with the windows rolled down! Boy, did THAT stuff last.
Like us kids used to say, "Sweets to the sweet..."

Well, the folks are starting to 'assemble.' If I got the count right, we should have about 20 folks for the long weekend. Rivers down to 1200 cfs and will continue to 900 cfs, PREMO for fly fishing (and that's all you can do in the top 30'ish miles of the river) this weekend.
Last fish count was August 24; darned neer a month ago, and it was at 9,000 + summer runs, and who knows how many fall kings.
Sould be a good event for all. fae

Made it out to my local Nevada pond a mere 2.5 hr drive with the DB in tow and managed to CNR a large quantity of rainbows tho none larger than about 15 inches. Still a fine day on the water with the flyrod. Hot pattern was either a woollyworm or wooly bugger in any color. Figured the bite was off if went more than 3 casts without a hit. 50+fish day... Oh and Nobody else on the lake.

Well, I didn't flyfish, but took the kids down silver fishing. Had an awesome day. Even posted about it on the main forum here under "proud dad". Was a very heartwarming day. Now I think she's ready for the flyrod. She's been asking, so now I think she's ready. You guys should run up there and read it.
