SKSs new
      #49292 - 02/16/03 09:28 PM

I'm looking for one. Does anyone know if there's a good source north of Seattle? Anyone ordered online and had a gun shipped to a dealer? If so how did the transaction go? I've seen online prices around $120-$170 for good condition to unissued condition.

Cup, I don't have a SkS, but I do have a SAR-1... Romanian
AK-47 varient.
I bought it on line and had it shipped to an FFL dealer here in town, I've done this 3-4 times and has gone smoothly.
You might look at the SAR-1 as they shoot same ammo as SKS
... 7.62x39 = cheap to shoot and will take the hi cap. clips and drums.

Price is a little more for an SAR-1... got mine for $269.00 and it was brand new and came with 4-30rd. clips and a cleaning kit and a sling.

Thanks for the reply. I've thought about an AK since they aren't that much more $$$, but for a play gun I'm going cheap. Also, if I get the SKS I might use it to hunt one spot and it seems like the better of the two for the field.
I called around today and the shops all want $199. For the online purchase, do you just have the local shop fax a copy of their FFL, and then you can place an order online?

I'm going past Alger tomorrow and will be back in town on Saturday evening. I'll stop by if the folks in my carpool will let me.

I love mine. I bought mine for $49 brand new when I had my FFL, but I hated scrubbing off all of that cosmoline. I also bought one of those plastic stocks for it and it works great. Nobody even knows it is an SKS, that is until I attach a 30 round clip to it.

So far I have taken about 15 coyotes with it and three deer. It is an excellent brush gun and because of the lack of recoil, follow-up shots are easier compared to my 740 in .30-06. It is about as quick as my Ruger Deerfield in .44 Mag, but the shorter stock and barrel make the Ruger more manageable. Not the perfect brush gun, but the SKS is pretty darned close.

I use those 10 round stripper clips, but I only put 5 rounds on them when hunting.

The first day I got mine I ran 600 rounds through it! What fun!

Well, my original post was in February. Shortly after that I bought one online from Aim Surplus and had it shipped to a local shop. It cost me $139 for the gun and $20 for the paperwork. Though I haven't shot it that much, I'm very happy with the whole deal.
