I have a rod where the ceramic fell out of the tip. How do I get the original tip off so I can replace it with a new one?

I use a bic lighter and pull on the tip and heat with the lighter and it will slide off. When you put on your new tip use 5 minute Epoxy it works the best. Steve

No epoxy on the tip... if you lose another guide its stuck!! replace with the hot glue. It may be harder to apply but not a big deal to do. Just heat up the guide while hanging on with a pair of pliers and heat the hot glue and rub so it goes in tube. If your fast you can slip it on the tip real fast and let it set up. If not heat it up quickly and place on rod/ align. Don't torch directly on the blank.

I have done like Marty said on a couple rods now. Works great. I use a pair of pliers to remove the old one.

I have never needed more than a match or a lighter to remove any tip. Just keep a steady pull on the tip while heating with the flame a second or so at a time until the glue is just melted and it comes free. This way you use no more heat than required. You don't want the heat to soften the epoxy in the matrix of the blank, just the goo touching the inside of the metal tip tube.

Fixed it about a month ago. Thought I'd try a lighter first and it pulled right off with my split ring pliers. Use the glue gun and it worked like a charm.
THANKS FOR Y'ALLS HELP! I am now trained and have experiance in fishing rod tip repair. Could it be a new career path? I can see it now plastered on the door of my ,tax write-off, Ford F350. "B2B's Rod Tip Repair Service"
