The Federal website shows a 12 gauge 3" 1 1/4 oz slug (547 grains) with a velocity of 1320 fps at 50 yards. It also has 2120 foot pounds of energy at the same distance.

I've hunted with Dogfish and he is a thorough cautious hunter with excellent marksmanship skills. I have hunted the most dangerous game on this planet and I'm about to depart on another expedition; I would be happy to have Dogfish hunting with me. Nice Bull Andy see you in about 18 months!

Been their get the rounds and lets hook up and ill furnish the ballistic gel and the test equip and show you that each one of our guns will be different and you wont get the factory results guarantee it. Aix

Hey anytime Aix....known for a long time that factory specs are not exact but they sure aren't as far off as you imply.  Your chronograph or mine for testen the round out the barrel.....pick a weekend date. Your problem is that after the round is tested by the chrony coming out the barrel that it follows the basic laws of physics...which one helluva lot of people have worked on for at least the past 100 years. E=mc squared dude! I can test fire out of several 12 guages with 28 inch barrels. I can supply a 26 inch tuber also. Do you require a different barrel length? Really interested how ya can explain how the ballistic tables acepted worldwide by the gun industry and users would miss a 559 drop in fpe from a drop in 24 fps.  Cold fusein maybe?  Gosh I'd welcome the chance to rock the foundations of several 100 years of ballistic science...we'd be famous. Hmmm on second thought we'll definitely have to at least use a couple of other chronies other than yours  .

I have the 24" test barrel. 2 actually. One over-bored, the other a tight tube, both rifled.
I also have loaded a few hundred thousand rounds when I loaded ammo commercially by hand. Your pick, pistol, rifle, shotgun. We have 4 different reloading presses, some progressive, some single stage, and many different die calibers. Except for loading slugs, I've pretty much done it all. Push a certain amount of lead a certain speed, you get foot pounds of energy.

I would have love to have dropped the animal first shot, but I didn't. Done it many times, though. I also admitted this fact, and didn't brag. Hopefully someone could learn from this experience.
I am very proficient with my shotgun, and I can spell , using smooth or rifled barrels, having taken a few deer and three elk with slugs at fairly short yardages under 60 yards. This time it didn't all come together. Sad yes, but true. Can't say the same for your "facts". We did have a .454 Casull with us, but I never had a suitable shot. Yes, I know I could have used a revolver where I was.
Gooose, just goes to show you that I attract flies everywhere I go.
Ranger, when did you find this spot? I asked my wife about a kitchen pass to join you, but she said I couldn't go. I'd probably be wetting myself constantly anyway.

Can I borrow one of them tubes to show this guy whats up?
E=mc squared and a bunch of other calculations sure has worked for a long time? Hey lets do the test and if I'm wrong I'll eat crow all over this board. Just really want to see how you lose 559 foot pounds in 24 feet per second.....especially within the effective range of the 12 guage.

That was prety sly of who every erased my last post to DOGFISH! I was probably out of line because of hunting season just gettin over and seeing all of the S$IT on the ground and if it happened in YOUR back yard it would be different!Its always different if it is someone elses area other than yours!No hard feelings just pickin up YOUR trash in MY back yard!

Hey Flatbottom, it was my call to delete your post, along with a reply to it. First off, it was not relevent to the subject. Lastly, it was rude and presumptious. That kinda of stuff is not needed here. If you want to make a post about hunters trashing your land, start your own thread. But don't lump people into catagories and then bash them. I have hunted alot of birds on "your" side of the mountains and NEVER left trash behind. Heck I even pick up my empty shells. I have seen lots of trash strewn about by some of the eastsides more popular hunting clubs. Enough said in this topic though, if ya want start a new one and be kind to others.
