Is it possible to buy a pair of binoculars (10X40) that won't fog for under $200.00?

Good question. In the weather we are having it is hard to keep anything from fogging up.

Internal fogging or external? I've never had glass that would not fog on the outside. I think it's a matter of temp. and humidity???

Internal. The outside I can deal with.

I bought a Cabelas Pine Ridge 8x42 bino a couple of years ago. When they first came out they were listed as water proof, so after recieving them I dunked them in the sink. No leaks. Now the catalog lists them as weather proof.
As I stated I've been using them for two seasons now and they are still crystal clear.
The price was around $160 and they are still listed in the catalog.
I'd recogmend them to anyone.
BAK-4 prisms, multi-coated, water proof and reasonably priced bino's are hard to find, but I'm happy with mine.

I dont have a pair YET, but the wind river roof prisms (Olympics and Pinnacles) are supposed to be very good glass for the money. The other good buy for the money is the pentax DCF WP and SP's. The pinnicles and SP's are supposed to be better than the swarovski SLC's, from what ive read, and the Olympics and WP's are supposed to be almost as good. The WP's are on clearance at a lot of online places because the SP's just came out. Im saving up for some wind river Pinnicles, i like to give leupold my money.:)

I have a pair of the cabelas guide series... Very Nice low light binos. Cost a little more than normal binos but not as much as the top end names. I will let you check them out if your in the neighbor hood

I have a pair of the Wind River 8x42's and love them. Great for over here in the brush and rain. Never had a problem with them at all. a bit over $200 but not much if you shop around and wait for a sale.

You might get lucky on ebay or some of the discount web sights and find a great deal.
Check out http://www.sierratradingpost.com/xq/asp/dept_id.L2~312/catimage./qx/prod_list_display.htm
They have some good deals right now in your price range $199 for Steiner and Pentax which are pretty good optics. Be patient and check this web page often as they get new stuff in and the good stuff goes pretty fast. You might want to give Nikon a look. Good stuff and reasonable prices. I have Nikon Bino's with the insta focus and a Nikon scope, never have had an internal fogging problem in 12 years. I think they perform as well if not better than Leupold, but then again, they make Leupold's stuff so no suprise.
Interesting comment about Pentax v Swarovski. I would bet any Pentax product in that performance category is around $1,000. I have a Swarovski scope and have yet to look through a scope that is more clear or brighter.

I think the pentax SP's are less than $500, and the WP's are less than $300. Of course, about them being better than the swarovski's i dont really know because i havent looked through all of them, but that is what some of the bird watcher site's say in the optics reviews, and John Barness has the same opinion. I would try and see for myself though, different people might see things differently.

What is the difference between roof prism and porro prism? I looked thru a pair of Nikons the other day while out hunting and wasn't really impressed( although mine were fogged and his weren't). I see a lot of Steiners listed really reasonable on ebay. Junk or not?

roofs are straight, porros angle out at the objective, and are much wider and somewhat heavier. The roof are supposed to be better at keeping the two sides aligned (much tougher), porros are supposed to be better in terms of field of depth, unless the porros are phase coated. Which all of the good ones are. The other difference is virtually all of the various maker top glass are roofs.
