Took one last hike in the hills this weekend to see how much damage the "December to Remember" windstorm did to the forest. Thought there might still be some chanterelles to be found, since I was still seeing mushrooms on my lowland walks. We only found one chanterelle. The forest floor was really carpeted with branches, broken tops, blowdowns, and leaves. If there were more mushrooms, they would have been hard to spot.
pretty bleak ... brother called me and wanted to give me his shaggy manes that were coming up in his garage. His old house had the front yard full of them too.. some peoples luck.
