Pine siskins arrive...
      #92614 - 12/25/03 07:33 PM

First pine siskins arrived today. Had the thistle seed feeder out for a month, with no visitors. Was thinking about moving it, when what to my wondering eyes did appear...about a dozen siskins. Sometimes flocks of 30 to 40 of these birds will drop in to feed. One minute you've got nothing going on, and the next minute there's a whirling dervish all around the feeder.

that's cool..we had our first flock this weekend too. They have been few and far between the last few years due to that disease that wiped them out. Keep your feeder clean as this disease is passed by dirty feeders, for one. Siskins can be easily trained to eat from your hand...neat birds.

Sauteed with squid they are okay if you scrape the feathers off with your teeth.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking for a dish to cook for my father-in-law. He loves birds!
