Here is one of my latest projects. This one I gave Caveman for Christmas for his desk at work. It has a large paperclip for photos, a pen and a clock.

I am liking my new hobby a lot! I did an Osprey with fish clock for RJ and and Elk clock for his dad also.

Nice work aunty. I will have to post a picture of a inlay I have on a box I bought. Pretty sure you could make one like it with the right wood.

Marty, isn't that why you got that new camera? I would love to see it!
Quillback, I might decide to sell to recover some $ for supplies down the road. I'm still gaining proficiency so not there yet.

Wow, that is awesome! Did you have a pattern or was this from scratch? I got a scroll saw for Christmas and would love to attempt something like that. Being that I am "artistically challenged" it would be impossible for me without a pattern!

Thanks for the nice comments!
I have to use a pattern. The work is pretty intricate so I don't know how else it could be done. It is sure addicting and relaxing though. Finding the right tension and blade type/size takes a couple of projects, but after that, you'll be ready to do some complicated projects. I have made a few more that I posted. HERE

Dukefan,
Here is where I buy most of my patterns. web page
If you get started and have any questions, feel free to send me a private message or email. I have made most of the beginners mistakes and can help keep you from making them also.

It varies. I've used some 3/8 and 1/2 inch poplar and oak. I've tried red cedar in several sizes and some cuts well and some doesn't. I mostly use the Baltic birch plywood in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 depending on how difficult the design is to cut.
My hubby just milled up a few hundred board feet of maple, so I am waiting on the thin stuff to dry enough to work. He bought me a planer last month for my birthday, so I should have some good stuff to work with soon!

wow thats great work, I have a scroll saw but have never tried anything like that. The lastest thing I have made was a salmon key holder for the wall. used 1/2 inch oak for that and it turned out great. Nice work

Marsha was cool enough to donate a piece for last months photo contest winners. I won one of the categories and here's what she made for me.

Thanks a bunch Marsha, I like it a lot!
