What kind of two-stroke oil do you use? The kind with a snowmobile, bike, lawnmower, and chainsaw on the front? There’s a bunch of different oils out there. Yes, most have the TCW rating stating how good they are. Even the generic brand has the rating sticker on it. Are they really any good? Well, they all work that is for sure. The two main categories of mixing oil are synthetic and non-synthetic. How they affect your motor in the long run is where the difference is in a high quality oil. A motocross bike, snowmobile, chainsaw, PWC, outboard, and many others all require different additives and detergents for optimum performance and longevity. Those bottles of oils with all the different pictures of machines on the front all have a little bit of each additive, enough to pass the ratings test. They burn real dirty though. They eventually clog up ports and gum up rings and such. Sounds like no big deal? Well, this is where permanent engine failure starts happening. Ever see those kicker motors that just smoke like a train? More than likely tons of oil residue built up in the exhaust. Foul spark plugs sometimes? Usually isn’t the oil injection system or your mixing ratio. Most of the manufactures have a good quality mixing oil. It usually isn’t much more money for the brand name oil. Buy it by the gallon, it’s well worth it in the long run.
Anybody use synthetic oils in there outboard?
