Lone Lake (Island)
      05/17/04 08:06 PM

Lone Lake (92 acres): Occupying a broad meadow area 2-1/2 miles southwest of Langley on Whidbey Island, Lone Lake has a large WDFW access on the north shore. There are pit toilets on site along with ample parking and turnaround areas. The launch is concrete.
Yearling rainbow trout are stocked, some after the first of May to avoid bird predation. This lake has also been selected to receive a bonus plant of larger triploid rainbows this year. These sterile fish can grow to trophy size if not harvested. Daily trout limit is one fish, with a minimum size of 18 inches. Selective gear rules are in effect to protect the quality trout fishery, except motors are allowed. Trout fishing here can vary widely from year-to-year due to cormorant predation, but should be good this year. Use large-fish methods here: leech wet fly patterns, and large lures (with the required single barbless hook). A bloodworm pattern is often effective in February and early March. Year-round open season.
