Snake River (Swan Falls Dam) Smallmouth fishing 5-12
      05/12/07 05:44 PM

My wife and I headed out to the Snake today above Swan Falls Dam to do a little exploring and fishing. I've only lived in Idaho about 8 months now so I am still learning the waters, this was my third time fishing the Snake from my boat. So after launching we headed up river maybee seven or eight miles before stopping to fish. We were targeting Bass, mostly tossing T-rigged worms at the shoreline. But as I have seen alot on the Snake fish were surfacing all over. So I start throwing a top-water when I see a few fish come clean out of the water in the 5-7lb class. It happens so quickly that I am not sure what kind of fish they were. I don't think they were Sallies, all of the Smallmouth that I have caught there have been about 13inches and under, today I caught 4 and my wife caught 1, all on Roboworms. They are little guys, but they fight hard though and are fun to catch. So I'm wondering if they were Carp surfacing??? If anyone else is familiar with this part of the river, do you know what different kinds of fish are present there? And if they were Carp does anyone have any tips for catching them. I C&R pretty much all of my fish anyway so I don't care if Carp taste good. All I know is a 5+ lb fish at the end of my line stripping drag sounds good to me.
