breaking a dog in help.

so i have a 2 year old chocolate lab. he has never been in a boat before but loves the water and the river. i took this summer to teach him to bank fish IE. not chase my cast and to do better on voice camends ect. but i was wondering if there are any tips for breaking them in a boat.? or just trial by fire type thing? any pointers?
