Walked back behind our cabin to see if there was going to be at least one Matsutake for harvest this season. Immediately found 2 that were past due. That got the juices flowing as I hurried down the trail to where we'd harvested a handful every previous season. As I make the corner I spied not a single or a couple Matsu's but a blessed clump of them just off the trail. As I am down on my knees harvesting them I look further back in the salal and huckleberry thicket and there's an even larger mass! Then as I am rooting those out I look to both sides and there's two more massive clusters! Totally covered in old growth forest duff, pitch and dirt I scramble on my knees to each gold mine! Back at the cabin I process about 15 pounds of Matsu's after trimming.
Then it's off to my black chantrelle patch and yes all of the small ones that I hadn't harvested 2 weeks ago are now fully grown! Hurriedly picked a pd of those plus a handful of orange chantrelles and hedgehogs. Independent Advocate For The Fish
