I finally made a a trip to the rock for a weekend of fishing, because of mechanicl problems with the boat we only were able to get out one day, but it was one I'll never forget.
The water was flat and the fish were willing, what more can you ask for. We anchored up in 130ft of water and set out 4 rods baited with a coctail of octopus cod and sardines. Each rod had 2 lines/hooks. I chose to use a jig instead, but it turned out I never had tme to use it.
Almost as soon as the line went in the water, the rod my wife was watching buried over and line started peeling off it. I went over to help her and the rod next to hers buried also so I grabbed it. 10 minutes later I finally had the fish to the boat. It turned out to be a 85lb flattie with a grey cod tagging along on the other hook.
Connie is still struggling with her fish so I grabbed the rod and layed the wood to it.

This one feels a lot heavier, maybe it's because the arms are already burning, maybe because there were 2 big flatties.

A twin of my last fish and another that ends up being 30lbs. No wonder she was having a hard time.
After that I decided to take a break for a few minutes and catch my breath. It was time for a beer. Jaska the other gal on the boat hooks up and starts screaming for help. i wonder over and give her a few pointers on how to wrestle these flat bastards and after a few minutes, up comes a pair of little chickens.

not long after the limit is full and it's time to start chasing black rock bass. The fishing was so fast and furious that I never got a pic, but as you can see, they filled the box. 50 of these guys in less than an hour.

After that we set out the spoons and trolled for salmon for a couple hours, but nothing wanted to play so back to the docks we went.

We had a great time and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great Ak fishing trip. If we had been able to go a couple weeks later the kings should have been around in good numbers, but if we had gotten into a king bite like we had for the bottom fish, I don't think I would have ever left.
